Dynamicspot for Android is free to install, but some features will require you to unlock the Pro version for a one-off payment of $5. These tools include putting music playback controls in the Dynamic Island and having it appear on the lock screen as well. Once you’ve installed DynamicSpot, you’ll need to give it some permissions. The app will ask for access to your notifications to display them on the Dynamic Island, for example, as well as permission to draw overlays on the Android interface so that the app can create different-sized black shapes.
Right now, the DynamicSpot app feels mostly like an aesthetic addition, lacking much of the advanced functionality and polish of Apple’s version of the island. However, the paid version of DynamicSpot does include options to switch up how taps and presses interact with your notifications, a feature absent from Apple’s island that earned a mention in our September 16th episode of The Vergecast. DynamicSpot definitely feels like a work in progress but is still impressive for an independent app and is an interesting way to change up how your notifications are delivered on your Android device.
The future of notches and hole-punch cutouts on Android is far from certain, and it seems a bit early to hold our breath for the ubiquitous adoption of very-much-still-in-development technologies like under-display cameras. With enough interest in third-party apps mimicking Apple’s Dynamic Island, could we eventually see Android OEMs cooking up their own versions
Here’s how the app works and how you can experience Dynamic Island on Android phone.
Open Google Play Store and search for the DynamicSpot app by Jawomo.
Download the app on your phone.
Now, open the app and click on Next to set up all the required permissions.
You can also adjust the size of the pill and location, based on where your phone’s notch is situated. For that, Go to Popup settings > Dimensions and adjust the three sliders until you align the pill with your phone’s notch or pill.
